25th anniversary logo
Client
The Training Network
Objective
To create a color logo celebrating the 25th anniversary of the company.
Process
The Training Network had traditionally used green as their signature color. In 2006, they launched a new product line on a separate website, and they chose to use purple and gray for the new site. I combined the three colors in the 25th anniversary logo.

The Training Network
Objective
To create a grayscale version of the 25th anniversary logo.
Process
Simply changing the color version of the logo to grayscale in Photoshop was insufficient; the shades of gray were too similar. So I redesigned the logo with three distinctly different shades of gray.

TV Book ad
Client
The Courier-Tribune
Objective
To create a warm yet contemporary ad for Sistasis Family Practice.
Process
Most of the ads running in the TV Book had a distinctly dated feel to them. I wanted to update the ad to make it fresh and contemporary while keeping the design warm and friendly. I researched stock photos and chose this one for the ad. I kept the layout clean and simple but chose a serif font and a script font to provide a friendly touch.

Objective
To create a friendly yet contemporary ad for Sistasis Family Practice.
Process
I chose to keep the same layout and design style for the New Year’s ad that I had created for the Christmas ad, with an appropriate change of photo.

Catalog cover
Client
Colonial Tin Works
Objective
To create a catalog cover appropriate for the tagline “Hot Items for the Holidays.”
Process
I was given the tagline, a template for the catalog, and a list of items to be included in the catalog. I chose blue for the background and red for some of the text with a glow effect added. I used a snowflake from a dingbat font, styled it in Photoshop, brought it into InDesign, and scattered copies, rotated to different angles, across the page. Then I chose certain items from the catalog to display on the cover, using feathering and clipping paths to layer the items on top of each other.

Catalog spread
Client
Colonial Tin Works
Objective
To create a design that would enable customers to distinguish, in the catalog, the varying sizes (and prices) for the pint, quart, and half-gallon jars.
Process
In the catalog, all the jars look alike; it’s nearly impossible to tell the sizes apart. So I chose to place the pint jars on one page and the quart and half-gallon jars on the facing page. On the left page, I highlighted the description of the quart jars in purple and the half-gallon jars in green. I then used the same colors on the facing page to separate the sizes, enabling customers to tell them apart.

6x9 postcard, side 1
Client
Victory Church Products
Objective
To create a postcard announcing the launch of the new company and its website.
Process
I chose to use the gold and purple from the logo as principal elements in the design, supplemented with red. I kept the design simple, clean, and geometric to give it a contemporary feel.

6x9 postcard, side 2
Client
Victory Church Products
Objective
To create a postcard announcing the launch of the new company and its website.
Process
The client’s original layout for the postcard included these three taglines. I chose to give them equal weight, accompanying each with a simple illustration and highlighting the last two words of each tagline in bold to create a strong pattern. I also used a dashed border for the coupon to encourage customers to cut it out and use it.

Thank-you flyer, side 1
Client
Victory Church Products
Objective
To create a thank-you flyer to be included in each shipment to customers.
Process
The client originally wanted a full-page (8½x11) flyer. I suggested that they consider a half-page flyer because (1) everyone gets lots of paper that is the standard size, so a half-page flyer would stand out, and (2) it could potentially save them money by allowing them to print two to a page. Again, I kept the design clean and simple, incorporating the colors from the logo.

Objective
To create a thank-you flyer to be included in each shipment to customers.
Process
The client wanted to offer a special deal on these two products to customers; I wanted to keep the design clean, simple, and easy for a reader to follow.
