Project
Dan Thomas animated GIF ad
Client
The Courier-Tribune
Objective
To create a small, simple, but effective ad using a photo of one of that year’s models.
Process
I removed the background from the photo of the car, created the blue-and-gray background to simulate an asphalt road against a blue sky, then created a trailer for the car to tow, linking the logo to the car. Then I animated the objects so that the car would pull the ad onto the screen; the trailer would then disappear, leaving the logo on the screen.

Pugh Funeral Home animated GIF ad
Client
The Courier-Tribune
Objective
To create a small, simple ad incorporating five interrelated businesses.
Process
I resized the logos for the two funeral homes to fit into the first pane of the ad; for the second and third panes, I centered the logos on a white background. For the last pane, the company’s logo was grayscale; I colorized the column with the ivy and re-typeset the name of the business to fit inside the ad.

Client
The Courier-Tribune
Objective
To create a simple, straightforward banner ad incorporating the real estate agency’s logo, color scheme, and phone number, while staying within certain file size limitations.
Process
I began with the agency’s logo on the left side of the ad. I wrote the tagline so that the phrasing would link the thought and the phone number together, rather than completely replacing the tagline with the phone number.

Ridge Funeral Home animated banner ad
Client
The Courier-Tribune
Objective
To create a simple yet elegant banner ad incorporating the “Dignity” logo, the green color scheme, the names of the funeral home and cemetery, and three keywords, while staying within certain file size limitations.
Process
I placed the “Dignity” logo as an anchor element on the left side of the ad. Then I added the name of the funeral home. To the right of the name, I cycled the three keywords in an elegant font. For the name of the cemetery, I used the same font and styling to keep the cemetery and funeral home linked together visually.

Strider auto dealership animated banner d
Client
The Courier-Tribune
Objective
To create a simple yet effective banner ad linking the three brands carried by the dealership.
Process
I chose one representative vehicle from each brand and removed the background from each photo. I then animated the ad so that as each brand appeared beneath the logo, the representative car also appeared on the right side of the ad. I chose to keep the address as a constant during the vehicle rotation, only replacing it with the phone numbers.
